Programme

The entrance is from 11 am (then the fun can really begin!) and at noon the reunion will be officially opened by Roel Scheepens, rector of Maartenscollege and Mike Weston, Head of International School Groningen. Afterwards, Myron Hamming, city poet, spoken-word artist and many more will bring everyone into the right mood with a fitting text.

We start the day with a big communal lunch. After that, from 13.30, there will be various workshops and other activities (registration is possible on the spot, but full=full).

  • Singing workshop
Singing a new St. Maartenslied under the inspiring leadership of our former music teacher and former student Chris Fictoor; what connects and relaxes you more? Nice singing, good for your mood and your lungs; 3 chances, because 3 rounds of workshops with as apotheosis the “Grande Finale” at 17.00 (see below).
  • City walks, 3 themes
Haven’t been in the city for a while? Then join one of the city walks and choose your theme, e.g. “Look up”, you won’t know what you see, with former teacher Aletta den Breejen, or “Klassiek’n in Grunn” classic city walk along the traces of Antiquity. Greek statues, Latin texts and natural classical architecture in the Martini city with former student and current teacher Anke Halsema, or “Metamorphosis”, rediscover the “living room of Groningen” with Klaas Jonkman of the “Friends of the City”.
  • Nostalgia!
Take a bus to the old school building in Haren, walk around, find your old teachers and OOP-ers, follow a lesson, have a cup of coffee and enjoy the music. Buses run every 10 minutes.
  • Workshop Songwriting
By Patries van Iterson, teacher at the Academy for Pop Culture, co-founder of the NMI and former student: capture your life in a fitting song text. Who wouldn’t want that? Patries offers that possibility in one round of workshops.
  • Reflection
Time for reflection during a celebration led by Mieke Thijsseling, former maths teacher. Stop for a moment and reflect on your school days on this special day. At 16.15 hrs.
  • Workshop Salsa dancing
Or rather in motion? That’s possible during a workshop Salsa dancing by dancing school Juan Carlos. Enjoy moving, making beautiful moves, swinging! 1 round with an unlimited number of participants.
  • Workshop Physical Art
A workshop of a completely different kind: Physical Art under the guidance of former teacher Wim Reimert (ISG). Who can recognise the laws of physics in the paintings? Visual artist and former physics teacher Wim Reimert takes you on a guided tour through the world of physics using a selection of his paintings about the laws of physics.
  • Workshop dance
Have you never set foot on the dance floor? Or do you already have rhythmic and flexible hips? No matter if you are an experienced dancer or not, you will be able to enjoy this swinging workshop. Learn and dance the basics of a Ballroom and Latin dance. The workshop will be given by two former pupils of the ISG and their dance partners.

And further

In between, a visit to the Schirmbar (ski lodge) (for the participants of one of the many ski trips and others of course) is a cosy option, or listen to Christopher 404, student of the Academy of Pop Culture, who is inspired by The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Choker among others and thus takes you into a dreamy surprising world of memories and reflection. He performs 3x 20 minutes.

You can also listen to the beautiful voices of Amoniacaramel, the passion project of Sarah Dekker and Cath Harryvan, both former students. Their music is described as diary music: they process passages from their most personal notes into beautiful, polyphonic, pop songs. Or you can test your knowledge of the school and its past in the pub quiz led by centipede and Dutch teacher Raoul Wilson. Always fun!

But most important of all: catching up with old friends over a drink!

Furthermore, there are many, many photos to view, you can take photos of each other and your classmates, and finally we all do the Grand Finale at 17.00 hrs. The already trained participants will lead, but everyone will sing along with the new St. Martin’s song to round off a great afternoon.
